Facebook has become an important source of entertainment for me -- It feeds my deeply-entrenched love of the horse. I enjoy drooling over the magnificent animals, the foals, and the show photos of my Facebook friends. Truthfully, I spend way too much time looking at pictures and not enough time tending to other things.
But it's baby time. This year's crop of foals is making an appearance, one by one. I'm hooked. I see this one and then see another and I sorely miss my time in the show ring. I reflect on where I have been, the shows I showed, the horses I knew and those I loved - the high times and even some of the sad ones. I love the horses still but I miss the excitement of preparing for shows and the draw of the trophy and the ride in the spotlight.

Mare and foal in pure exuberance enjoying a gallop across the flower-strewn pasture. The sweet youngsters that are making their way into the horse world show so much promise, have presence and spunk and beauty even now, at their baby stage. It'll be exciting to watch them grow up. Fortunately, the folks that own some of my favorites are avid and avowed horse people with breeding programs and futures in the horse industry. Their babies are absolutely astounding! I believe I'll be able to watch their progress and development as time goes on. I'll continue to ogle and drool, enjoy and wish, comment and relish their beauty, but thanks to digital photography and the social networks, I can enjoy these wonderful animals right along with the rest of the world.
To tell the truth, Facebook and my friends' horses provide wholesome
entertainment that I crave even more than any movies - since I'm a
die-hard horse lover of beauty and class.

Photo by Louise Gilliland, Winsdown Farms. RWC Dam Saton's Celebrity and Oh What A Prize doing "The Mare's Dance".This stunning photograph has just the perfect lighting at the right angle to catch forever this delightful portrait of dam and foal as they simply enjoy life. About the photos and the photographer: Louise Gilliland is the Owner and Manager of Winsdown Farms (
http://www.winsdown.com). I selected these three pictures because the horses are beautiful, the lighting is natural with a mystique that makes the photography "pop" and the excellence of composition. Simply said, I love the richness of the finished photos.
Winsdown produces a unique
Saddlebred quality "to compete at the industry's major shows, yet with
the trainablity and "fun" factor to be trained at home." The excellent photography is indicative of Louise's artistic expression.
